Each year, road traffic collisions kill 1.2 million people worldwide, and injure millions more. The UN Global Road Safety Week is a platform for improving safety for the hundreds of millions of people who travel the world's roads every day. Road safety events—hosted by the World Health Organization, UN regional commissions and other organizations—give people a chance to voice their concerns about road safety, draw attention to the collective costs of road traffic injuries, and promote ways to improve safety. The UN General Assembly called for the observance of this Week in its 2005 resolution A/RES/60/5.
